If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen that a couple of weeks ago, Dannii and I went on a short holiday down to Victoria. One of the most fun things we did was explore Sugar Republic, a pop-up museum with delightful sweets/lollies theme!
There were so many amazing interactive installations, from a ‘Wheel o’ Treats’ in the first room, to a giant gumball machine you could climb into, to a birthday party room with a ‘press for confetti’ button, to a giant pink ball pit you could basically swim in! Plus, there were plenty of treats to eat at various points along the way too, just perfect for a sweet tooth like me!
The other attendees were comprised mostly of families with young kids or groups of young women vying for the perfect selfie, haha. You can’t blame them, though – Sugar Republic is pretty much designed for Instagram! Everything is brightly coloured, there’s pink everywhere, and there are tons of amazing photo opportunities.
You could walk through the museum fairly quickly and see it all in about an hour, but it’s worth slowing down and taking in every little detail – and doing a bit of people-watching, too! It was almost as much fun watching other people interacting with the installations as it was actually interacting with them ourselves. We spent a good couple of hours moving from room to room, and filling up our camera rolls with some choice shots!
Sugar Republic is located at MacRobertson’s Factory in Fitzroy, Victoria, and will be open until 17 August – tickets are available online. If you’re heading to Melbourne in the next month, I definitely recommend a visit for a whimsical – and sweet – experience!
