Japan 2017 trip highlights – Tokyo DisneySea!

This post is part of a series on the highlights from our 2017 trip to Japan. You can find the other posts here!

My absolute favourite part of our trip to Japan was the two days we spent at Tokyo DisneySea! I’d never been to a Disney park before, and was extremely skeptical of the claim that Disney parks are “the happiest place on earth”… but you know what? Tokyo DisneySea actually was the happiest place I have ever experienced!

We were lucky enough to visit DisneySea during the Halloween season, so there were themed decorations, food and shows all about the Disney villains. And this year, guests were allowed to dress up in Disney costumes for the entire Halloween season – it was pretty amazing to walk around the park and see so many people dressed up as their favourite characters!

DisneySea is unique to Tokyo, which is why we chose to spend our two days there rather than at Tokyo Disneyland. There are a lot of other websites that give you a super in-depth guide to the Tokyo Disney Resort to help you plan your own visit (like TDR Explorer or the Disney Tourist Blog), so this post will just run through my favourite things about DisneySea!

Kyoto was my favourite of the Japanese cities we visited during this trip! We spent about 4 full days in Kyoto, and definitely could have done with a couple more, as there’s just so much to see and do. Here are some of the highlights of our time in Kyoto!

It feels like everyone I know has visited Japan or is planning a trip to Japan in 2018! Not that I can blame them – Dannii and I holidayed in Japan in September last year (his second time, my first time), and I loved it!

Japan 2017 album, part 1

Today I’m sharing part 1 of my scrapbook of our Japan trip, featuring Tokyo, Hakone, Miyajima, Hiroshima and Osaka! I filled a whole 9×12 album with pictures and ephemera from our trip (I used the now-discontinued ‘Messy Book’ from A Beautiful Mess), and I’m pleased that I managed to finish this before the end of the year!

Right in the front of the album, I punched holes into an old Story Kit envelope to hold my travel journal, which I wrote in during the trip. I’d never kept a travel journal before, and I really enjoyed it – it was great to record things as they happened, and it meant that I could focus more on the pictures and design in the album instead of trying to work out how to fit in lots of journalling.

I used cards and embellishments from all over my stash to complete this album – Becky Higgins kits, Ali Edwards story kits, Studio Calico kits and stamps, A Beautiful Mess ‘Messy Box’ kits (now discontinued, sadly), and various stickers, washi tape and embellishments that I’ve picked up through the years (including some I purchased in Japan!). I also punched holes into A4 and A5 sized envelopes that I bought from Daiso, to hold brochures, larger tickets, and bits and pieces of ephemera that didn’t quite fit in the pocket pages.
