We held our wedding reception at Room With Roses, a gorgeous cafe specialising in high tea, located in the beautiful Brisbane Arcade in the city. It was a fun, relaxed light lunch featuring a lot of seriously delicious finger food and Room With Roses’ specialty raspberry punch. Every part of the planning process for the reception was so easy and painless, thanks to the amazing staff!

I loved every part of our reception – it was so wonderful to be surrounded by our friends and family, all enjoying themselves and sharing in the happiness of our big day. I remember laughing a lot, giving and receiving countless hugs, and crying a little during the speeches. I remember feeling joyful, excited, and so, so loved.

To celebrate our 4th anniversary this year, we decided to revisit Room With Roses in a different way – we picked up two delicious hampers filled with their signature high tea treats, and shared a picnic at New Farm Park!

The hampers came boxed up very nicely together, including disposable cutlery, cups, napkins and plates, but we decided to re-pack everything into our own wicker picnic basket so we could use our own real silverware and plates and have less to carry on the way back.

Unfortunately we did have a little mishap in that the savoury tart contained pesto, even though I had let Room With Roses know about my nut allergies when I booked the hamper. However, I emailed them on Monday and the owner left me a message straight away apologising profusely for the mistake and offering to refund one of the hampers, which I very much appreciated. I’m glad to see that the customer service at Room With Roses is still as high quality as I remember it being in 2014.

Here’s to four years together and many more to come!

all the little happy things - Wedding Wednesday - third anniversary

Today is our third wedding anniversary! The past three years haven’t been easy. Loving each other every day is hard, and we don’t always get it right… but I know that all the hard work is 100% worth it. You are the the Luke to my Lorelai, the Fitz to my Simmons, the Bob to my Linda. There is nobody else in the world who I would rather muddle through life with. Love you, Dannii. ❤

Our wedding cake was made by a family friend, Mrs B, who has been close with my family for nearly my entire life. Mrs B was the one who taught me how to make all kinds of crafty things when I was a little girl, from birthday cards to painted glass. It was really special to have her take part in our wedding day by making our cake.

We asked for a mud cake, and requested a majority of buttercream icing (because neither of us like fondant), and I asked Mrs B for a small cascasde of flowers down the sides. The result was absolutely beautiful.

The funny thing is: neither Dannii nor I actually got to eat the cake. We didn’t save the top tier (since there were only two!) and during the reception, I guess neither of us got around to tasting it in between talking to our guests. I am reliably informed that it was delicious, though, and I don’t doubt it!

all the little happy things - Wedding Wednesday - accessories

There were lots of little details and accessories that I loved about my wedding day outfit. It started with the new perfume I’d chosen for the occasion – Naughty Alice by Vivienne Westwood. Now whenever I wear it, I remember my wedding day.

The beautiful beaded embellishment on my gown was from Babushka Ballerina. When I tried on the dress the very first time, I mentioned to the shop assistant that I felt like something was missing… so she found this embellishment for me, and it was sewn onto my gown.

I kept my jewellery pretty simple. Besides my engagement and wedding rings, the only other piece of jewellery I wore was this diamond necklace, gifted to me by my mum for the big day.

I had known for a long time that I wanted to wear an Anna Campbell headband, and this was the one I chose. It made me feel very elegant and beautiful! My hairdresser tied it on when she did my hair, but my mum re-tied and adjusted it when I got home, with a little help from my cousins.

all the little happy things - Wedding Wednesday - guest book

As part of our wedding photography package, our friends and photographers Lily & Thom did a fun engagement portrait shoot with us. I had planned to put the photos in a book as a nice keepsake… and then I thought, why not make the photo book into our wedding guest book? So that’s what we did!

I put the book together via Create by kikki.K, making sure to put in lots of blank spaces for our friends and family to write their messages. I loved the various templates and design options in kikki.K photobooks so much that I used them for our actual wedding photobook as well.

We left the book at a table at both the ceremony and the reception with some pens. It was so much fun to sit down with Dannii after the wedding, flipping through the pages and reading the very sweet messages from our loved ones!

Even before Dannii and I got engaged, I had daydreamed of buying my wedding gown from The Babushka Ballerina, a wedding boutique here in Brisbane. I would pass by on the bus and swoon a little at the beautifulAnna Campbell gowns I saw in the shop window, with their vintage-inspired details and flowing silk chiffon skirts.

Fast forward several months, and I walked into The Babushka Ballerina with my mother and my maid of honour, ready to shop for my gown. The first dress I tried on was the Anna Campbell Sophia gown – and I fell in love. I tried on a few other dresses, but I always came back to Sophia.

The gown made me feel so elegant and beautiful, I never wanted to take it off! I absolutely loved the floaty layers of silk chiffon and the different ways I could wrap and tie the straps. I added a beaded embellishment to the bodice and a silk sash, but that was all I needed. It was the perfect wedding dress.

On the big day itself, my mum and bridesmaids had a bit of fun wrapping and tying me into the gown (we’d had to organise a night for them to practise before the wedding!), and they did an excellent job. Maybe a little too good of a job – I had to get my maid of honour to loosen it all up when I got to the reception, as I was getting a little short of breath!

I love that my actual wedding dress matched up with my daydream dress. I felt like a princess, and I know Dannii thought I looked beautiful – and in the end, that’s what you want from a wedding gown, isn’t it?

all the little happy things - Wedding Wednesday - Dannii does the dishes

I love how well this photo captures Dannii’s servant heart. He moved into our new place a few days before we got married while I continued to stay with my parents, and even on the morning of our wedding he was making sure that everything was in order for when we returned from our honeymoon and officially made the unit our home together. I married a man who, willingly and without complaint, washes the dishes and does the majority of the housework pretty much every day… I’m very lucky and grateful that this is one of the ways that he shows he loves me!
