Project Life – February 2019

Today I’m sharing my February Project Life pages! I put these spreads together over the course of a couple of days while I was on leave, and it was fun to relive all the fun moments from last month all at once!

My title page this month features a few of my favourite photos of my nephew and niece, a bit of a funny story from our home, and my ‘Here and Now’ card listing out what I was doing in February. The little quote card in the bottom right pocket came with a purchase from Kikki.K, and was just perfect for my album!

This page is all about stories from work. I kept things cohesive by using simple, plain cardstock dressed up a little with washi tape and number stickers, and just a couple of simple embellishments on the corner cards. One of the big stories from the month was when I went to get an echocardiogram, so I included a snippet from the ‘patient information’ brochure. I like including bits of life ephemera in my albums, to keep things real.

We played some fun cooperative games with friends last month, so this page is about those gatherings! Dannii finished up playing Pandemic Legacy with some of his friends in February, and we also played RWBY: Combat Ready with some of our friends who are also big RWBY fans. We had so much fun, and I’m glad I was able to capture and record those memories in my album.

I had such a hard time picking out the right journal cards for this page – I just really struggled to work out the right colours! But I think I got to a good place in the end. I love all these pastels – but with only a small touch of pink, because my friend Elaine (whose baby shower is featured here) hates pink, haha!

I’m so glad I had the right story to tell so that I could use up this cute chipboard pencil! It’s been sitting in my stash for ages just waiting for the right moment… and this was it! I had some friends over for a Crafternoon Tea where we drank tea and coloured – it was lovely.

This spread is all about some of our family celebrations from February (and there were quite a few)! I went with a pink, black and white colour palette across the whole spread to tie things together. I used cards from just a couple of kits to keep the shades consistent, and I like that these pages look like they belong together!

I finished off my pages with my niece’s 3rd birthday party – lots of bright rainbow colours and touches of pink! I kept the cards largely unembellished so that the photos remained the focus. Isn’t my niece the cutest?!

And that’s it for February! I hoped you liked this peek at my Project Life album. Stay tuned for my March pages – as well as a whole separate album coming soon to document the big family holiday I went on for the first half of March!

Scrapbook layout: MacNamara dinners 2018

Our best friends the MacNamaras host a dinner each month for whoever of their friends and family can make it. It’s one of the highlights of every month – good food, fantastic conversation, fun times. In 2018, I made sure to take a photo of the guests at each dinner, and I used all those photos to make this fun scrapbook layout as a gift for our hosts!

I’m glad I finally got an excuse to use this wood veneer and gold glitter tag that I’d been hoarding for ages! I embellished it with a few Thickers, a couple of enamel dots and some word stickers.

Since there were 11 photos, I kept things very simple with plain white cardstock borders around each photo and some little tags made from grey cardstock and gold glitter washi tape.

I’m so glad I was able to bring all these happy memories together in one layout!

Scrapbook layout: Fun with Nai-nai & Kong

This is one of those layouts that started from the title! I knew I wanted this layout to say “Fun with Nai-nai & Kong” (what my niece calls my parents) in a big and bold way, without any journalling – so I just rummaged through my supplies and experimented until I had something that worked!

The title was the first thing I put down, and then I just layered in washi tape and various embellishments, starting with the washi tape and ending with the sequin mix.

I don’t use tags very often in my scrapbooking projects, but I think I need to start using them a little more! I like the way this tag frames the rest of the title.

The sequin mix was a last-minute addition after I decided that I really need to accentuate the word ‘fun’- and what’s more fun than sequins??

I’m also glad that I got to use some of my stash of washi tapes! I love the look of layered stripes and originally I considered cutting up some 12×12 papers, but I’m glad I went with the washi!

I had a lot of fun playing with my supplies to put this layout together, and I’m really happy with how it turned out!

Red Lilou dress

As soon as I got Tilly Walnes’ book Love at First Stitch, I knew I wanted to make a plain red Lilou dress. I actually attempted this dress early last year – but unfortunately I cut the bodice about half a size too small, and, feeling discouraged, I abandoned the project completely. Last summer, I decided to try again – and this time I cut a better size!!

I’ve made three other Lilous before, but this was the first time I’ve done the proper pleated skirt – it was actually a lot of fun to iron those sharp pleats into the fabric, and I really love the fullness the pleats give the skirt! I added pockets as well, because all dresses could use some pockets.

As you can see, the bodice still isn’t fitted quite right. It’s still wearable, but definitely not as well-fitting as some other dresses I’ve made before. I cut a size 3 bodice tapering to a size 4 waist, but I think next time what I actually need is to trace out the pattern in between sizes 3 and 4 – the top of the bodice is a little too tight, but the waist is just a little too loose.

Even though this isn’t a perfect garment, I’m glad that I stuck with it! I’m really glad to have crossed off another item in my sewing ‘bucket list’, and I’m looking forward to lots more sewing this year!

Scrapbook layout: Maddy, you are magic

I had an extra copy of one of my very favourite photos of my niece, Maddy, so I decided to make a fun layout using a couple of supplies I’d been hoarding – a gorgeous 12×12 transparency, and gold acrylic mirror ‘magic’ word!

I love the way the word ‘magic’ shines in the light, and the fact that the plastic star perfectly matches the colours of the lens flare in the photo!

I added a couple of simple journalling spots with a couple of strips of paper and some gold foil washi tape. I love the way these strips frame the design. I attached the journalling strips, photo, ‘magic’ acrylic word and the plastic star to the transparency using double-sided tape, and covered up the taped spot on the plastic star with a tiny wood veneer star.

I just love how this layout turned out, and I’m so glad I got to use a couple of my favourite ever kits supplies to make it!
