My husband and I don’t do a lot of overseas travelling, but we often go on one-week or three-day mini breaks to other places in Queensland or sometimes interstate. I decided I wanted to create a separate album for all of those little holidays, and I kicked off my new album with some pages about our recent trip to Victoria!
The first few pages are about our short stay up Mount Dandenong, and our drive down to the Yarra Valley. It was a lovely relaxing few days and we didn’t really do much, so I didn’t have a lot of photos – just a lot of photos of the food we ate!
The next spread is about our stay in the Yarra Valley and our visit to our favourite gin distillery, Four Pillars (their Bloody Shiraz gin is soooo good!)
One of the highlights of our holiday was our visit to Mount Baw Baw, which was my first snow experience as an adult! We went on a husky sled dog tour, which was SO much fun! This spread was one of my favourites to put together – I used a lot of elements from the Studio Calico ‘Northern Lights’ kits, because the winter theme was just perfect!
The next series of spreads are about our days in Melbourne, one of my favourite places in the world! The first page is a bit of an introduction and about our visit to Dannii’s grandparents… then there’s an explosion of pink pages for our afternoon at Sugar Republic! I definitely raided my stash for all of these pink and candy-themed journal cards and embellishments! The last Sugar Republic page features a 9×12 page/print from an old Messy Box kit that was perfect for the theme, and also a good way to transition out of all the pinks and golds!
It wasn’t all sugar and sweets, though – we also explored the city a little bit, and caught up with an old friend!
We also made time to check out the Alice in Wonderland exhibit at ACMI, which was a lot of fun! I hadn’t realised what a long history of stage, film and TV adaptations this classic story has had! I opted to include our very cool exhibit programs in my spreads, using A Beautiful Mess attacher stickers from Studio Calico.
I finished off my album with a spread on the Melbourne Finders Keepers market (couldn’t resist popping in some business cards from some amazing makers, and our market map is in the yellow envelope!) and our quick visit to the State Library of Victoria – that gorgeous reading room is one of my favourite places in the world.
And that’s it for my Victoria 2018 pages! I had so much fun putting these together, and I’m glad I decided to give my holidays their own album – it means I can use more pages and pockets to tell my holiday stories, without bulking up my regular Project Life albums. I’m looking forward to filling this travel album up with more mini-break stories over time!
