Today I’m sharing my April pages from my 2018 Project Life album! I ended up keeping things really simple for a lot of this month’s pages, and tried to focus a bit more on journalling, as I had a few stories that I wanted to make sure I captured properly in words.
I used a mix of stamps from past Studio Calico Documenter kits to embellish the 4×6 card. The centre card is my favourite thing on this page – I love how perfectly it captures what was going on in my life in April 2018!
The big story of this month was that finished up at my commercial law firm and started my new job at a small not-for-profit organisation! These pages were all about looking back on my time at my old job, giving thanks for the opportunities I had, and looking forward to a new journey. The big envelope holds the farewell cards that my colleagues gave me, and I embellished it with some photo booth strips from past office Christmas parties. A lot of the cards and elements on these pages are from Ali Edwards‘ ‘Review’ story kit, which were perfect for telling this story. I used photos of different parts of my office, and selfies taken in the lift during my last week – and I even popped in my old business card as a little featured element.
The left side of this spread is all about my last day at my old job, and the right side of the spread is about starting my new one! I picked out phrases that helped capture the way I felt during each event, and kept the focus on the words (both on the printed/stamped journal cards, and in my own handwriting). The cards on this spread are a mix of Ali Edwards, Studio Calico and Becky Higgins.
This page features my favourite technique for adding journalling space to a patterned card – adding in some trimmed-down white or grid cardstock, framed by plain washi tape. It’s an easy way to feature a pretty pattern while still making room for some words or stamping!
I love all the bright colours on this page! I kept the embellishment simple so as not to detract from those pops of colour. I made the gold stripe on the 4×6 card by carefully tearing up a strip of gold foil washi tape – I just love how this looks!
My whole family went to the Kite Festival in April, so I devoted an entire page to that story. The photos were bright and interesting enough that I didn’t really need to add too much to the page – just a couple of fairly neutral journal cards, a puffy rainbow sticker, and some letter and phrase stickers on the photos themselves!
I tried to pick up the main colours in the photos when selecting the journal cards on this page, and I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out! The bottom right card features some gorgeous puffy stickers I bought a while ago from Washi Gang – I think I need to get some more puffy stickers, because I really love how they can elevate a plain journal card!
For my last page of the month, I used phrase stickers and light pink journal cards to tie all my photos together in a cohesive way. Simple pages like this remind me why I got into Project Life in the first place – documenting memories can be as simple as putting photos into pockets and writing down some thoughts on a few journal cards, embellishments optional.
And that’s it for April! Now onto the next month of documenting… May is my birthday month, so I’m definitely looking forward to getting my birthday memories into my album!
