Japan 2017 trip highlights – Tokyo DisneySea!

This post is part of a series on the highlights from our 2017 trip to Japan. You can find the other posts here!

My absolute favourite part of our trip to Japan was the two days we spent at Tokyo DisneySea! I’d never been to a Disney park before, and was extremely skeptical of the claim that Disney parks are “the happiest place on earth”… but you know what? Tokyo DisneySea actually was the happiest place I have ever experienced!

We were lucky enough to visit DisneySea during the Halloween season, so there were themed decorations, food and shows all about the Disney villains. And this year, guests were allowed to dress up in Disney costumes for the entire Halloween season – it was pretty amazing to walk around the park and see so many people dressed up as their favourite characters!

DisneySea is unique to Tokyo, which is why we chose to spend our two days there rather than at Tokyo Disneyland. There are a lot of other websites that give you a super in-depth guide to the Tokyo Disney Resort to help you plan your own visit (like TDR Explorer or the Disney Tourist Blog), so this post will just run through my favourite things about DisneySea!

Project Life 2018 – March pages

Today I’m sharing my March pages from my 2018 Project Life album! This month I played around a bit with making my own journal cards using washi tape, paper scraps and stamping, which made these pages a lot of fun to pull together!

March is the beginning of autumn here in Australia, so I put together an autumn leaves-inspired title page for the month. I used elements from past Studio Calico kits and some lovely washi tape I bought in Japan to embellish the journal cards.

Japan 2017 trip highlights – Kyoto

This post is part of a series on the highlights from our 2017 trip to Japan. You can find the other posts here!

Kyoto was my favourite of the Japanese cities we visited during this trip! We spent about 4 full days in Kyoto, and definitely could have done with a couple more, as there’s just so much to see and do. Here are some of the highlights of our time in Kyoto!

Scrapbook layout – my tribe

Today I’m sharing a traditional scrapbook layout, which I based off this sketch from the Studio Calico blog!

I ended up rearranging some of the elements of the sketch to best suit the photo and embellishments I wanted to use, and I’m really happy with how my variation turned out! I did have a bit of trouble with figuring out what papers and patterns to use, but in the end I opted for a very simple colour scheme, to keep the focus on the photo.

Working on this layout taught me not to be afraid of adding a few extra embellishments, to see how the layout looks with additional elements. My original page featured just the title, wood veneer heart and journalling, which felt too plain, so I added in the stars, phrase sticker and copper foil label, one by one, and ended up with a page that I’m really happy with.

Supplies used:

  • Striped paper from a past Messy Box kit
  • Wood veneer heart purchased from Spotlight
  • Phrase sticker from Washi Gang
  • All other papers and embellishments from past Studio Calico kits
